Free Comic Book Day is upon us with immaculate timing this year, just a single day after the release of Joss Whedon’s modest little costume drama, The Avengers. Why, it’s almost as if there were some sort of massively expensive marketing plan afoot. If the comics world actually benefits long-term from a movie tie-in for once, this would be the one. Nerds, if you’ve already dragged your dates to the movie, go the extra mile while they’re still excited: Take them to any area comic book store this Saturday (May 5) for an array of free comics – no strings attached. Your best bets for the day are A Comic Shop , which will be re-opening its “Geek Easy” hangout that day with artist Tony Baldini sketching in-house, and Heroes Landing in Clermont, where “Brids of Prey” writer Gail Simone and other comics creators will be signing their books.
